The BBFC stands for the British board of film classification. This is the association responsible for rating movies and making sure that the right content is in the right film rather than say a children's filming containing scenes of drug abuse and bad language. They rate movies by age such as 15 and 18 films which can contain different things and each have their own restrictions. We will use their website to find what age restriction we will work with and which is better suited for our purposes.
What sort of issues might I find in an 18 film or video?
18 works are for adults and can contain strong issues such as:
- very strong violence
- frequent strong language (e.g. 'f***') and / or very strong language (e.g. ‘c***’)
- strong portrayals of sexual activity
- scenes of sexual violence
- strong horror
- strong blood and gore
- real sex (in some circumstances)
- discriminatory language and behaviour
What might I see in a 15 rated film or video?Any of the following:
- strong violence
- frequent strong language (e.g. 'f***').
- portrayals of sexual activity
- strong verbal references to sex
- sexual nudity
- brief scenes of sexual violence or verbal references to sexual violence
- discriminatory language or behaviour
- drug taking
We will be using an age rating of 15 because this allows us to include basically everything without restriction so long as we don't make it too extreme or graphic.
