Creative Opening Title Sequence
- Creative title-creative titles are more about how the text is portrayed on screen e.g.will they fly onto the screen or just appear and if the colour, font or size is appropriate, they will also be able to reveal bits of the story but only enough to intrigue and capture the attention of the viewer the film alien has a creative opening sequence as the camera pans over a unknown earth like planet suspense is built up with the use of the iconic sound track of the film, the only thing reviled to the viewers is a slow pan of text that slowly appears on the screen.
Linear
Opening title sequences can be made into many different types, here are a few types of OTS:
- linear- A story based opening title sequence will be set around creating and setting the scene in the OTS before the actual story begins, they will tend to make sure that the story is set and able to begin without any missing information but will not be able to reveal too much of the story in ways that would spoil and ruin the viewers experience. The opening title sequence for the movie "Them" uses linear as they use it to set the scene and begin the story whilst not revealing much to the audience.
Theme
- Theme- A themed opening title sequence is one that has a clear goal of setting the theme of the OTS, this can be done by having the OTS centred and focused around the theme e.g. to show a theme about a happy family would involve a lot of shots showing scenes of happiness and have a lot of smiling faces and things associated with being happy.
NON-LINEAR OPENING TITLE SEQUENCE
- Non-linear editing- Non-linear editing is when the story isn't in any chronological order. It is a method that allows you access any frame regardless of the sequence. This allows you easily use the cut and paste method. This is also heavily edited and uses lots of transitions and effects. saw2 uses non linear as it is heavily edited and reveals nothing of the story making it really obscure and difficult to spoil and ruin.
